Does your clinic or hospital need a website? A guide for doctors in Pakistan

Many clinics and hospitals in Pakistan are busy without a website. Patients come through referrals, word of mouth and the sign outside. So why bother?

Because the way new patients choose a doctor is changing. Before visiting, many people now search online: the specialty and their city, the doctor's name, or simply "hospital near me". What they find, or do not find, shapes their decision before they ever call.

What patients look for before they visit

The questions are almost always the same:

  • Which doctors are available, and what are their qualifications?
  • What are the OPD days and timings?
  • Where exactly is the clinic, and is there parking?
  • How do I book an appointment?
  • Is there a lab, X-ray, pharmacy or emergency service?

If these answers are hard to find, patients either call your reception with the same questions again and again, or they choose a clinic whose information was easier to find.

What a good clinic or hospital website includes

Doctors' profiles

A page for each doctor with their photo (with their permission), qualifications, specialty and OPD days. For many patients this is the most important page on the site.

Departments and services

One clear page per department or service, in plain language. This also helps Google show the right page when someone searches for a specific service in your city.

Timings that are easy to update

OPD schedules change. The website should make it simple for your team to update timings, so the site never shows old information.

One-tap contact

Most visitors are on a phone. Buttons to call reception, message on WhatsApp for an appointment, and open directions in Google Maps should be visible on every page. Keep the emergency number easy to find.

Urdu, English or both

Think about your patients. Many clinics use English for doctor profiles and service names, with Urdu for key instructions like timings and how to book. Choose what your patients actually read.

Your Google Business Profile matters as much as the website

When someone searches for a hospital or specialist nearby, Google often shows a map with a few listings before any website. That listing is your Google Business Profile. Make sure it has the correct name, address, phone number, hours and photos, and link it to your website. Our guide to setting up a Google Business Profile explains the steps.

What to avoid

  • Patient photos or details without written consent. This includes faces, reports, files and screens in the background of photos. Protect your patients' privacy first.
  • Exaggerated claims such as guaranteed cures or "best hospital in the city". Keep information factual, and follow your professional body's rules on advertising.
  • Fake or bought reviews. They damage trust and break Google's policies. Ask real patients to leave honest reviews instead.
  • Out-of-date information. Wrong timings or a doctor who left years ago frustrate patients more than having no website at all.
  • Slow, heavy pages. Large sliders and videos make the site slow on mobile data. See why websites are slow.

Does a small clinic need one too?

A single-doctor clinic does not need a large site. A simple one-page website with the doctor's profile, timings, location, and a WhatsApp or call button, plus a complete Google Business Profile, covers what most patients need. You can add more pages as the practice grows.

A simple checklist

  1. Search for your clinic's name and specialty in your city. What do patients see?
  2. Check your Google Business Profile: correct name, phone, hours and location?
  3. List your doctors, specialties and OPD timings in one place.
  4. Decide how patients should book: call, WhatsApp or both, and who will answer.
  5. Collect good photos of the building, reception and facilities, with no patients in them.
  6. Decide on English, Urdu or both.
