Does a restaurant in Pakistan need a website if it is already on Foodpanda and Instagram?

Many restaurants in Pakistan run their whole online presence through Instagram and delivery apps. It is a reasonable place to start: that is where many customers already are. So is a website still worth it?

The honest answer: it depends on your restaurant. But for most dine-in restaurants, cafés and caterers, a simple website does things that apps and social media cannot.

What delivery apps and Instagram do well

  • Delivery apps bring hungry customers who are ready to order, and handle delivery and payments.
  • Instagram shows your food, atmosphere and personality, and lets people message you.

Keep using them. A website is not a replacement; it is the part of your presence that you fully own.

The problem with rented space

On a delivery app, you are one listing among many competitors, often shown right next to each other. The app decides the layout, the ranking and the rules, and usually takes a commission on each order. On Instagram, the algorithm decides who sees your posts, and an account can be hacked or restricted.

None of that is a reason to leave these platforms. It is a reason not to depend only on them.

What a restaurant website adds

1. You show up when people search on Google

People search "rooftop restaurant Islamabad", "best biryani near me" or "family restaurant with parking". Instagram pages often do not appear for these searches, while a website with a clear menu, location and description can. Combined with a Google Business Profile, it gives Google much more to work with.

2. A menu people can actually read

Photos of a printed menu are hard to read on a phone and invisible to Google. A proper menu page, with dishes, descriptions and prices as real text, is easier for customers and searchable.

3. Direct table bookings

For dine-in restaurants, a booking form means fewer missed calls and fewer messages at busy times. Guests choose a date, time and party size, and your staff confirm.

4. Direct orders, without the commission

Some restaurants add their own ordering for pickup or their own delivery, while staying on apps for new customers. Regular customers who order directly can mean better margins for you.

5. Answers to the questions people call about

Opening hours, location, parking, family seating, private events and catering. A website answers these once, clearly, instead of your staff repeating them on the phone.

6. It works for events, catering and corporate clients

Companies booking an event or a catering order often want a proper website with packages and contact details before they trust a new vendor.

When you might not need one yet

If you are a delivery-only kitchen that gets nearly all orders through apps, and you have no plans for bookings, events or direct orders, a full website may not be your first priority. A complete Google Business Profile and a good Instagram page could be enough for now.

What a good restaurant website includes

  • A readable menu with prices, as text, not only photos
  • Location, a map link, opening hours and parking information
  • Tap-to-call and WhatsApp buttons
  • Table booking, or a clear way to reserve
  • Real photos of your food and space
  • Fast loading on mobile data (see why websites are slow)
  • Links to your Instagram and delivery app pages

An example

We built a concept website for La Terrazza, a rooftop restaurant in Islamabad, with a searchable menu, table reservations and QR code ordering for dine-in tables. It is a concept project, not a commissioned one, but it shows what is possible. You can see it in the work section on our homepage.
